Getting started

What is Base888?

A plain-spoken guide to money and starting a business in the United States. You answer a few questions, get a plan made of short steps, and work through them — every step carries the date it was last checked and the source it came from.

It is not advice about your situation. It is general education, and where a decision genuinely needs a professional we say so rather than guessing.

Do I need an account?

Not to look around. You can go through onboarding, get a plan and read the free steps without signing up.

An account is what saves your plan so it follows you between devices, and it is free.

Is any of it free, permanently?

Yes, and it stays that way. Step 1 of every Path, the free tools, the scam-pattern pages and the glossary are free and are not a trial.

The free plan is always reachable — you are never cornered into paying to get out of a screen.

What is a Path?

A set of steps in order, on one subject — credit, taxes, starting a business. Each step is a short thing you actually do rather than something to read, and the first one in every Path takes about five minutes and produces a result you can see.

Billing and plans

What does it cost?

$11 a month, or $99 a year. The annual plan works out cheaper per month and is the one most people pick.

The first 500 members can take the founding price of $79 a year, locked for as long as they stay.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — 14 days on the annual plan, offered once after your plan is built. A card is needed to start it, and you are not charged until it ends.

Monthly has no trial. The free plan has no time limit and no card.

How do I cancel?

You → Subscription, and then the link there. Canceling happens in your App Store or Google Play settings, because that is where the subscription lives and neither store lets an app cancel on your behalf.

You keep everything until the end of the period you already paid for. We do not make you talk to anybody first.

Can I pause instead of canceling?

On Android and on the web, yes — for one to three months, keeping your plan and your progress. You are not charged while it is paused.

The App Store has no pause for subscriptions, so on an iPhone it is not something we can offer honestly. Canceling there keeps everything until the date you have paid up to.

Can I get a refund?

On a web purchase: seven days, no questions, through the billing portal.

Purchases made through the App Store or Google Play follow that store’s own refund process — we cannot issue those ourselves, and each store decides. Both have a request form, and asking within a few days of the charge usually goes best.

I paid already and the app thinks I have not

Tap Restore purchases — it is on the plan screen and under You → Subscription. That reconnects a purchase made on another phone, or before a reinstall, or under a different sign-in.

If it still says no purchase found, check you are signed in to the same account you paid with. Apple’s Hide My Email creates a different address, which is the usual cause.

Why is it the same price on the website?

Because charging more inside the app to cover the store’s cut reads as a game, and we would rather absorb it.

The price is the same everywhere. If a store cannot set a tier at exactly our price it lands a penny under.

Your account

How do I change my state?

You → Profile. Your state decides which state card shows inside a step and which deadlines get worked out, so it is worth having right.

Changing it does not rebuild a plan you have already started.

Can I change my goals after the plan is built?

Yes. Your plan is built from your goals, your situation and your state, and changing any of them changes what comes next rather than wiping what you have done.

Steps you have already finished stay finished.

Can I use it on my phone and my laptop?

Yes. Your plan, your progress and your membership follow the account, not the device.

Sign in with the same method on both — a magic link sent to one device will not sign you in on the other.

Privacy and your data

Do you sell my data?

No, and there is no version of this where we do. We take money from members and from clearly-labelled partner links, and that is the whole list — the /money page sets it all out.

Will you ever ask for my Social Security number?

Never. Base888 does not ask for an SSN, an EIN, an account number or a bank login, and the app refuses to store one if you type it in by accident — the check runs on your device and again on our side.

If anything claiming to be us asks you for one, it is not us.

How do I delete my account?

You → Privacy → Delete my account, in the app, without emailing anybody. It removes your plan, your progress, your saved items and your posts.

It cannot be undone, and it does not cancel a subscription bought through a store — do that separately or you will keep being charged.

Can I get a copy of my data?

You → Privacy → Download my data. It gives you everything held against your account in a plain file.

What do you track?

Which screens get used and which steps get finished, so we know what to write next. Not what you search for, not what you ask, and not what you paste into Reality Check — those are the most private things in the app and none of them leave it attached to you.

The content

How do I know the information is right?

Every step, article, tool and state page carries the date somebody last checked it and a link to the primary source — usually the agency’s own page. Nothing without a date renders at all.

Where something needs a professional’s eye it says who reviewed it. Where we have not done that yet, it says that too.

I think something is wrong

Tell us — there is a report link on every article and step. A confirmed error gets fixed and the last-verified date resets, which is visible to everybody.

This is the most useful thing anybody sends us.

Why does Ask Base say it has not written something yet?

Because it only answers from Base888 content that has been checked and dated. When there is nothing to point at, it says so instead of making something up that sounds the same as everything else.

Every question that lands there goes on the list of what to write next.

Community

How do I report or block somebody?

Every message has report, mute and block on it. A report reaches a moderator, and the first action happens within a day.

Blocking is immediate and does not tell the other person.

Why can I not post a link?

New accounts cannot post links for the first few days, and neither can anybody below level two. It is the cheapest thing that stops a community about money filling up with referral spam.

It lifts on its own.

When something is wrong

Ask Base and Reality Check say they are unavailable

That is a switch on our side, not a fault on yours. They get turned off if something is wrong with them, and everything else in the app keeps working.

They come back without you doing anything.

I have run out of questions for today

Ask Base and Reality Check both have a daily cap, which resets at midnight Eastern.

The cap is there because each one costs us money to run; it is not a nudge to upgrade.

How do I reach a person?

The support address is in You → Help, and a first reply comes within a day.

If it is about a charge, include the date and the last four digits shown on the receipt — that is usually enough to sort it in one message.
