How we make money

Two ways: the $11 a month you pay us, and commissions from companies we send people to. This page lists both, and the rules we hold ourselves to.

Where the money comes from

SourceWhat it is
Subscriptions$11 a month or $99 a year. This is most of it, and it is the part we want to be most of it — it means our job is to be worth keeping rather than to be worth clicking.
Affiliate commissionsWhen a member forms a company, opens a business account, or signs up for bookkeeping or insurance through a link here, the company pays us. The margin is real and we would rather you knew the number than guessed it.
What we do not doWe do not sell your data, run ads, take payment for placement, or charge for anything a government agency provides free.

The rules

The free way always comes first.

Every step that has a paid option shows you how to do it yourself, for free, above the paid one. If doing it yourself is genuinely the better choice, the page says so and the partner button still sits underneath it.

We only recommend what we would tell a friend to use.

A commission is not a reason to list something. Several categories where the money is good have no partner here because we have not found one we would send a friend to.

Partners never touch our content.

No partner reviews, approves, edits or sees a page before it goes out. Nobody pays for placement, for a ranking, or for a mention inside a step.

Every paid link is labelled where you find it.

We may earn a commission if you sign up here. It never changes your price or our advice.

Your price never changes because of it.

An affiliate link costs you nothing and never gets you a worse deal than going direct. If we ever find one that does, it comes down.

Our partners

None yet. Base888 has not signed a single affiliate agreement, and there is no paid link anywhere in the app or on this site today.

When that changes, every partner appears here — the company, the category, and the range we are paid — before the link appears anywhere a member can click it. Publishing the empty table first is the point: it is easier to promise this now than to explain it later.

Reviewing this

If you think something here is wrong, or a recommendation looks like it was bought, say so — that is a bug report and we treat it as one. Everything we change is listed, dated, on the updates page.
